Pua + Haupia: Tai Swim Winter 2025

There are some collections that feel less like “new arrivals” and more like a homecoming, and our Pua + Haupia drop is exactly that. These pieces live in that soft space between nostalgia and fresh beginnings, bringing together two parts of our art and past collections that we’ve loved since day one: creamy coconut-neutral minimalism and the deep, fragrant beauty of local flowers.

Haupia

Haupia is our take on a true Hawaiʻi staple. But this isn’t just a “white bikini.”

It’s the shade of fresh-cut haupia at a lūʻau.

We wanted Haupia to feel like the ultimate blank canvas brought back from our 2021 Community Collective Edit. Soft, minimal, and timeless, with that Tai Swim fit you know by now: snug where you need it, soft where you want it, and flattering in that “I didn’t even try” way. Haupia is the kind of white bikini you reach for every single weekend, the kind that looks good with saltwater, sand, and zero makeup. Never see through.

Pua: A Garden Woven into Fabric

Then there’s Pua: a hand-drawn floral story rooted in childhood gardens, lei-making afternoons, and the floral lineage of Tai Swim.

This print began with Tai’s sketchbook, loose, sunny puakenikeni blossoms in the same style she used as a kid when she first fell in love with drawing flowers. We paired those with white ginger beautifully illustrated by Austy, a design you might remember from our early archives. Two artists, two flowers, one print that brings the best parts of the past into today.

Pua is warm, feminine, and unmistakably local.
It smells like lei stands and kauwela.
It looks like the golden hour walk home.
It feels like the kind of print that only exists in Hawaiʻi.

From Sketchbook to Swimwear

Every Tai Swim drop starts the same way, a page in a notebook.
A pencil. A little scribble. A “what if we tried this?”

Pua + Haupia is no different. It’s the slow, deeply personal process that makes small-batch feel so special: the dreaming, the designing, the sampling, the tweaking, the moment the print comes back from the factory and suddenly it’s real.

We still get emotional seeing girls wear designs that started as sketches on our dining table.

As always, these collections are produced in small quantities, once they’re gone, they’re part of the story, not something we’ll reprint a hundred times.
