Hanakini x Tai Swim Co Collaboration Hana Drop
Take a look behind the scenes and find Tai Swim's inspiration for drawing the Hana print, the most special collection to date. We got to work with Mel from Hanakini swim and get her design expertise on her flattering curve-friendly swimwear. We were able to share our favorite skimpy and mid coverage sets together and create a collection built for every body type. Dive in with us!
From the Tai Swim Design Journal: "Working on this collection with Mel has made me feel like a kid again. I was always the pink sister and I have never felt more like that girl now. Let’s meet HANA 🌸"
the ART
Hana (花, flower) is our hand-drawn, woodblock-inspired floral—carved, stamped, and brought to life. It blends vintage Y2K Hawai‘i bikinis I grew up wearing with design inspiration from traditional Japanese printmaking techniques.
the STORY
In ‘Ōlelo Hawai‘i, Hana means work/craft — and over the years, I’ve reconnected with my screen-printing roots from school, the same art that first sparked Tai Swim all those years ago. Austy and I sketched Hana in 2022, but the colors never felt right—until now. When I started talking to Mel from @hanakiniswim, it just made sense for this to be a shared print.
the NAME
A nod to Mel—pink like Maui’s lokelani, Hana like the place, Hana like HANAkini Swim. Seeing this print evolve with the depth and dimension both of us brought to Hana’s story has been such a full-circle moment. Hidden throughout the Hana, you’ll find our initials, logos, and the pigments of our childhood in two very special exclusive prints.
