Tai Swim Active: Designed for Beach to Barre
Coming out of the 2020 pandemic, life is looking alot different. Only a few short months ago, world was shifting — indoors, outdoors, online, masked-up — and somehow we were all trying to find new ways to stay grounded, stay moving, and stay connected. Like so many of you, I was working out at home, filming yoga flows from my tiny bedroom, and spending every free second outside — whether it was surfing, hiking, or squeezing in a beach walk.
But I kept running into the same problem: I was constantly switching outfits. What I wore to work out wasn’t what I wanted to surf in. What I wore to surf wasn’t what I felt comfortable doing yoga in. And none of it felt like me.
That’s when Tai Swim Active really began.
Where It Started
The very first ideas for Tai Swim Active started brewing in early 2021. I wanted something that felt like our swimwear — minimal, flattering, sculpted — but built to move with you, support you, and last through long workouts, salty swims, and sunny days in and out of the water. The goal? Seamless transitions between land and sea.
From the beginning, the mission was clear:
-
Form meets function
-
Swimwear meets activewear
-
Minimal waste, maximum versatility
We didn’t want to launch something just to follow a trend. We wanted to create something original — made in small batches, with our signature recycled fabrics, and a genuine connection behind every design.

The First Pieces: A Love Letter to My Friends
Our first Tai Swim Active samples came in mid-2021, and they were magic. The inseam was slightly longer than a typical bikini bottom, giving just enough coverage to feel secure while running or doing yoga, but still flattering and cheeky enough for the beach. We designed the active KYLIE shorts with a curved back seam and our super cute Pua print matching our swimwear collection from Winter.
The very first TWO PIECE set we released was the Linda Top + Bottom, named after one of my favorite instructors at Core Power Yoga. It was soft, sculpting, and supportive — the kind of set you throw on in the morning and end up wearing all day.
That personal touch has continued with every piece since. Starting in 2023-2024, we plan to launch active rompers and many more sets inspired by our previous designs.
These aren’t mass-produced designs. These are memories stitched into fabric.
Made to Move (And Last)
From day one, all of our activewear has been made using the same recycled nylon-spandex blend we use for our bikinis. It’s buttery-soft, breathable, quick-drying, and long-lasting — if you take care of it.
That means:
-
Cold water washes
-
No harsh detergents
-
Hang dry in the shade
-
Absolutely no dryers (heat is a killer for nylon spandex — even the high-quality kind)
We made our activewear to replace the pile of tops, shorts, and bodysuits you'd normally rotate through. One Tai Swim Active set should last you season after season — on hikes, in the ocean, in the studio, or even just at home.
And because every piece is made in tiny batches (most styles are limited to 50 pieces or fewer), you know you’re getting something rare. Something made with intention. Not something pulled off Alibaba and relabeled.
Activewear That Feels Like Swimwear (Because It Is)
One of my biggest goals was making activewear that felt just like our swimwear. The same back strap details, the same fit across the hips and bust, the same sculpted silhouettes — just tweaked for movement.
Our rompers, for example, will be designed to feel like a one-piece bikini layered over active shorts. It’s subtle, but when you put one on, it just makes sense. They’re breathable, beautiful, and built to do all the things Tai Swim girls do — surf, hike, lift, stretch, play, and rest.
And honestly, it all had to feel personal. That’s why I’ve never rushed a release or made something just to fill a gap. Every new Tai Swim Active style starts from the same place our bikinis do: a sketch, a memory, a name, and a friend. Going forward into 2023, we are so excited to bring in even more activewear sewn with the contrast piping that you love from our Quinn Tops with the same seamless comfort from our best selling buttery soft fabrics like the Page Set. 2022 Samples:
We’ve come a long way since those first home workouts in 2020. Thank you for being part of the story. I can't wait for you to see what we have in the works next.
More to come — always.
